3. What is meant by Galvanisation (Zinc Coated)?

Galvanisation is a process of applying a protective zinc coating to iron or steels to prevent rusting. The most common method is hot clip galvanizing, in which steel sections are submerged in a bath of molten zinc.

5. Why is silicon added in the coating of roofing sheet?

Silicon is often used in the roofing industry because it is reliable product that’s been proven to last a long time against weather. when compared to alternative silicone stands upto sun and severe weather without cracking. Silicon can also hold standing water for long periods of time without degrading or leaking.

6. What is cool roof technology?

Steel sheet naturally trap the heat. Cool roof is a roofing system that helps keep a building cool. It manages to do this via two methods. Reflect away a percentage of the visible, infrared and ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Georoof sheets are equiped with superior cool roof technology paint resulting in 10% decrease in overall temperature.

7. What is meant by anti fading and anti ageing colours.

Anti fading – Resists the dimming of colour due to the environmental changes.

Anti ageing means always look new and attractive.

8. Explain the water repellent properties of Georoof roofing sheets.

Due to the special chemical treatment and the silicon component in the alloy provides excellent water repellent properties.

9. What is salt spray test? Explain effects on Georoof material vs competitors.

The salt spray test is conducted to determine the corrosion resistance of roofing sheets, assessing how long they can withstand deterioration when continuously exposed to salt water in a controlled, accelerated rusting environment as per the described standards. Our GLX product approximately 6000 hours compared to other products (500 hours).

11. Explain advantages of Stanza over other profiles

Provides Seamless Roofing with concealed screws as the highlight avoiding chances of corrosion around screws. It is easy to handle and highly aesthetically appealing giving a modern look for the roof.

Matte finish has a better paint coating than regular glossy finish. It has 2 times better life than regular glossy and with a warranty of 15 years.

Total width is the actual width of a sheet and covering width is the total width minus overlapping area of two sheets.

It is a distance between two main ribs of a sheet.

20. How are Trafford sheet strengthened?

The strength of the Trafford sheets are related to the number of ribs (profiles). More the number of ribs, higher the strength. Georoof offers 6 rib with rib on rib for super strength.

21. Does temper affect the quality of the sheet?

Temper (Soft Coil and Hard Coil terms) does not affect the quality of the sheet. Tempering depends on the purpose of application. Tempering of the material is done by cooling the material at different temperature and durations.

22. Does shape affect the strength of the sheet?

Yes, different profiles have different strength levels. Georoof recommends sheet lengths based on optimal strength. Going beyond the recommended length may affect the overall strength levels.

23. Explain the paint coating technologies ?

RMP – Regular Modified Polyester (Good)

24. Corrosion

Zinc Corrosion is called white dust

Base metal corrosion cause red dust

Excessive lead present in the zinc coating cause black spots, it is normal

GSM (Gram per square meter). It is used to indicate the thickness and subsequent strength of various coating layers such as zinc or alu-zinc.

25. What is meant by GSM coating.

GSM stands for Grams per square meter. It indicates the thickness and subsequent strength of various coating layers on Zinc or Alu-zinc.

26. What is meant by Galvalume ? Explain

Galvalume is a coating consisting of Zinc, Aluminum and silicon, that is used to protect a metal from oxidation. AL = 55%, Zinc = 43.5%, silicon = 1.5%.

27. What is meant by GLX? Explain the composition.

Galvalume next generation. It is produced by alloying the aluminium, zinc, silicon and magnesium. 55% Al + 43.4% Zn & Mg + 1.6% Silicon.

A layer of magnesium and silicon is created on the surface of Galvalume alloy immersed in molten zinc. This manufacturing process enhances the strength, durability, workability and sustainability of steel. GLX has improved corrosion resistance by virtue of its characteristics self sealing ability by extra Mg-Zn layer stabilizes the self sacrificial reaction of Zinc.

28. What is the main difference between GL (Al-Zn) and GLX.

GL (Alu-Zinc) – Aluminium, Zinc and Silicon Coating

GLX – Aluminium, Zinc, Magnesium and Silicon coating.

29. Effects of heat on roofing. Explain

Steel sheets naturally trap heat. However Georoof sheets are equipped with superior cool roof technology paint resulting the decrease in overall temperature compered with other Roofings. Recommended to use insulators for better results.

30. Effect of drumming sound due to rain falling on roofs.

Drumming sound is produced when rain falls on steel sheets. As georoof sheet have highest paint coating thickness and textured paint finish there is considerable reduction in this sound. Recommended to use insulators for better results.

31. Why do water droplets sometimes form on the inside portion of the sheets.

Condensation, a natural phenomenon occurring during cold and rainy seasons, forms on surfaces like drinking glasses and car windows; to mitigate this in structures, adequate ventilation is recommended.

32. Why does corrosion occur on cut edge ?

Cutting sheets with improper tools lead to uneven and exposed edges which are prone to corrosion. Therefore, it is highly recommended that only suitable and proper tools are used for cutting.

33. What are the red or brown spot seen after roofing?

During drilling and screwing, tiny particles of the base material are generated on exposure to rain and dew, these particles cause staining. To prevent this, it is recommended that particular area be thoroughly cleaned post roofing.

34. Recommended angle for roofing?

Proper roof slope as the right angle is what makes the roof perfect. The angle of the roof slope should be from 35 to 45 degree. It will help avoid the possibility of clogs on the roof due to fallen leaves during monsoon.

35. Recommended screwing area for roofing?

Apply self-drilling fastness on the ribs of the roofing sheets and not in the valley where water flows. And it’s necessary to apply silicon sealant at all the screwed areas to avoid leakage.

36. Reasons for bubbling effect on roofing sheet.

Storage under wet conditions for long periods lead to bubbling of paint.

37. What is white rust?

Corrosion of Zinc layer is called white rust.

38. Results of Fungal effect on roofing. How to reduce it.

Fungal growth is caused by the presence of water on the roof, which in turn is caused because of any obstruction to smooth flow of water. It may arise as a result of Factors like improper slopping and presence of leaves and other particles on the roof.

39. What causes black spots on the bottom paint layer?

Black spot are caused due to excess lead prevent in the zinc coating. This is perfectly normal and it is not a defect.

40. What are the things to be considered during transportation and storage of roofing sheets.

Store away from materials that may damage the sheets. Stack the roofing sheets on wooden padding in a sloping position so that the water can drain away easily, if the number of sheets are less place them inclined to a wall. Cover the sheets with water resistant sheet and ensure sufficient air flow around them and during transportation arrange the sheets in a proper way with no moment and stack them with recommended number of sheets and load and unload with proper equipment.

41. Things to be considered while cutting the roofing sheets.

During cutting it is highly recommended to use appropriate tools such as nibblers and scissors. The usage of marble cutters is highly discouraged as it can lead to the exposure of base metal and subsequent discoloration.
